Expect Great Things…

August 17, 2018

The Unstoppable Church in Acts Chapter 2. that church was unstoppable because it was filled with power – power to impact people, power to change lives, power to set the captives free – And it says, ‘the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved’.

This was an infant church, this was a baby church, it was only hours old yet already it was making an incredible impact and people were being saved and lives were being changed. You know I would love to see this church filled to overflowing.

And the growth I want to see is new growth – I’m not interested in attracting Andover hopers and shoppers. I’m not interested in stealing people from other churches – and there’s an awful lot of that goes on.

I want Acts 2:47 to be true of us here at CenterPoint – ‘The Lord added to their number daily– he added to their number daily - those who were being saved’.

Necessary Sin - Pride

August 13, 2018

“God humbles the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

If you become prideful, God will humble you. In pride, you can either humble yourself or God will do it for you. But if God does it, it’s much more painful., “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and in due time, He will lift you up.”

This theme winds its way through the Scriptures. Jesus said, “The first shall be last and the last shall be first” and “the truly great among you will humble themselves.” We find this throughout the Scriptures when a king will get prideful and God humbles him. You can either humble yourself or let God do it for you.

Necessary Sins - Anger

August 13, 2018

Paul said, “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. Eph. 4:26-27

Overlook an Offense—Many disputes are so insignificant that they should be resolved by quietly overlooking an offense. “Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense” (Prov. 19:11).

Overlooking an offense is a form of forgiveness, and involves a deliberate decision not to talk about it, dwell on it, or let it grow into pent-up bitterness or anger.

Reconciliation—If an offense is too serious to overlook or has damaged our relationship, we need to resolve personal or relational issues through confession, loving correction, and forgiveness.

“[If] your brother has something against you … be reconciled” (Matt. 5:23-24). “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness” (Gal. 6:1; see Matt. 18:15).

Necessary Sins - Lust

August 13, 2018

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matt 5:27-28

According to Jesus, just looking and lusting is a sin!

14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. James 1:14-15 NLT

When it’s allowed to grow it bring death to intimacy, death to purity, death of trust and ultimately spiritual death. It is incredibly destructive.

Necessary Sins - Gossip

August 13, 2018

“When we are talking about a situation with somebody who is neither part of the problem or part of the solution, then we are probably gossiping.” Rick Warren

16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him… 19a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Prov 6:16, 19

The Bible tells us that words have the power of life and death.

Words have the power for much good or much evil.

God’s desire is for all of us to learn how to control our tongues so that our words bring life.

UnAnswered Prayers…sort of.

June 26, 2018

Sometimes we feel like God isn't listening, or maybe that God doesn't even hear our prayers. We would consider them unanswered prayers.
